How to List Your Business on Google Maps Using Google My Business Listings New Features

If you have searched for a shop, restaurant or an office address, you would have noticed that a search result with a map listing would have showed up in Google search. Sometimes, this will also have pictures of the business premises, the address and phone number. These results are not automatic. It show up on your screen because the business owner has listed their business on Google Maps.

Companies that do business in a local area should take an interest in local online marketing and take control of the information that comes up when a person searches for your business.

Here’s an example of what shows up on Google when you search for AA Impressions. It has photos, map location, address, open/close hours and reviews. You should try to bring such results when someone searches for your brand name.

STEP 1 : Create & Setup Your Google My Business

First Go To Google My Business Page. Click on Sign In and logn with your Gmail ID.

Next Enter Your Business Name. Remember you have to enter the exact business name that you would like your customers to search for. Its basically your Company Name (e.g. XYZ Corp. Ltd.). Then enter your business Address / Office address of your company located. And if its auto detected by Google its great else navigate your exact address on the map using the RED point marker and drop it on your location.

Next you can mention the Category of the business you are operating. e.g. If You are owner of “XYZ Gym” , you can pur category as “Health & Fitness “; if you are and educational institute , you can enter EDUCATION category etc.

Then you have to enter your contact details like Contact Number, Your company website URL (You can leave it blank if your business dont have an website).

Hit NEXT and validate  “Finish & Verfify this business”.

Finally You will have to verify the business you listed just to prevent Google from listing SPAM Businessess across. You can verify your business by selection the method as “Mail”, here the mail means the real postal mail which will be sent to your business adress in 12 Days with a Validation Code.

You are all set to go now. Once you recieve the Postcard, you can enter the validation code and can verify offcially your business and it will be LIVE on Google Maps 🙂

Step 2: View and Edit your Dashboard

Some Additional Settings you need to do on your Google My Business Page’s Dashboard to optimize it and help your customers get enough details about you. Start by filling out all pertinent information, including:

  • Phone number
  • Website URL
  • Appointment URL
  • Business hours
  • Address
  • Locations
  • Categories
  • Company Logo
  • Profile Photo
  • Internal and external photos
  • Virtual Tour (if applicable)
  • Videos

Step 3: Keep Everything in Sync

If you are using different Google services for your business it makes sense to bring them all under one Google account so everything gets integrated. For example, the dashboard also shows the number of unique visitors the website has got – this data is taken from Google analytics. So here are the list of 7 services you should bring under the same Google account to make everything easy, seamless and integrated:

  • Google Console
  • Google Analytics
  • Google AdSense
  • Google Adwords

When your website is verified with Google Search Console & Analytics, Google will also show the latest posts from your Business Page below the map listing on Google search. This can help you in Inbound Marketing

Step 4: Get Reviews and Ratings

Having a good review when someone searches for your brand name in Google helps a lot in creating a good brand image. Anyone can write a review for your store, restaurant or product through their GMail account. You can explicitly ask your fans and followers to leave a review on your Google My Business page. Ratings start to appear after a few reviews and ratings have been entered. This how it appears on the right side bar of Google search.
